20 new features we want for the Tesla Mobile App

I asked in the official UK owners group what functions should the new Tesla App have when 8.0 is released (or iOS app version 3), here are the answers:

The app lacks the following features (answers sorted in order of importance from the 80 UK owners that responded to my survey).

  • Trip planning inside the app
  • Disable the car remotely (e.g. Car gets stolen
  • Cold weather controls (seats, front and rear window & steering wheel)
  • Touch ID to unlock app
  • Open/close sunroof and Windows fully
  • Change charge schedule
  • Change charging rate
  • Live feed from cameras
  • Warm battery up
  • Data logging (like Teslalog)
  • Driver profile switch
  • Open/Close trunk
  • Home automation support (IFTTT etc)
  • Audio system control (so users in the rear could control music from the app
  • Tesla publishes the API / JSON

I think the ‘disable the car’ option could be tricky and needs to be carefully thought through. Even something like ‘reduce speed’ could be dangerous if someone was doing it as a prank. I would be in favor of an option that allowed you to disable it once the car was stopped but not interfere with driving itself (other than perhaps limiting it to a reasonable speed if it were being chased by authorities–say to whatever the speed limit was on a given road).

Or just a message like: Car will be disabled in 120 seconds. Pull over immediately!

    Feature requests:

remote control driving (steering, speed) at least to coax “Summon” to learn
remote view of all cameras and visual sensors (inside and out)

user-defined function for all key buttons (including click-and-hold, double- and triple-click)

assign driver profile to unique key

    change scheduled charge and amperage
set specific mile range for charge
set “max charge by deadline time” (e.g. “I’m leaving at 1:30pm, not staying for a full charge.”)

change the temp for cabin-overheat and freeze

notification of all “learning” behavior, e.g. “started battery pre-conditioning — continue/stop?”

    Some “parental supervision” ideas
    * driver mode for novice drivers (speed and acceleration limit, early warning on tailgating, “vigilant” mode for land-change without indicator, excessive speed for conditions (traffic density, visibility)

    * valet and second-driver “rules” (one trip to/from garage, no detours) or for novice drivers, restricted phone function, no passengers, etc.

    * remote monitor location, route, real-time speed
